Welcome

Welcome to this Newsletter, which contains news from our recent Council meeting held residentially at High Leigh on the 13-14th October. There is also news about the Council elections.

Residential Council Meeting

The Council met for 24 hours at High Leigh Conference Centre on 13th and 14th October. A highlight of the meeting was an address by Professor John Lennox dealing with the resurgence of militant atheism and secularism. ‘Evangelicals lack the courage to articulate Bible teaching in the public square,’ he said, and ‘the media thinks of atheism as the default position.’ Richard Dawkins had defined faith as ‘believing where there is no evidence’, yet Christianity is based on evidence. ‘Faith’ as defined by Dawkins is not an intrinsically religious concept – science is based on faith. Atheists want to replace religion with science.

Council spent some time considering where evangelicals now stand as regards the Women Bishops Legislation. The Council has in its membership people who hold different views as to the rightness of consecrating women, but wants proper provision for those who cannot in conscience accept the ministry of a woman bishop. Consultations are ongoing with a view to CEEC presenting a model ‘Following Motion’ for Diocesan Synods.

CEEC Elections

Each year there is the opportunity for election to membership of CEEC of representatives of the Diocesan Evangelical Fellowships. On our website www.ceec.info you will find details together with downloadable Nomination forms. Why not prayerfully consider whether you should stand?
